3D Homeschool Recipe

Asalamualaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu ladies!

Today, me and the kiddos had a great history lesson, but of course, no subjects are isolated and I personally feel that homeschooling gives you the opportunity to tap into this further. Our homeschool is not one dimensional, it’s 3D!

So, let me use today’s lesson as an example.

Me and the kiddos were studying two of the most famous Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt: Amenhotep IV and Tutankhamen. Amenhotep IV was the only Pharoah to introduce monotheism to Egypt, whereas King Tut reintroduced polytheism.

Lesson plan – Carving Gingerbread Hieroglyphs

Asalamualaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu ladies
We are currently studying the Ancient Egyptians in History and like many, my kids found the concept of hieroglyphics so interesting! So, I decided to do a little project…but not the usual making a scroll and painting.

Instead, we decided to make our stone tablets from gingerbread and ‘carve’ our hieroglyphics like the Ancient Egyptians did!

What you will need:
Gingerbread biscuit dough
Clingfilm to wrap and chill
Butter knives/toothpicks/forks
Rolling pin
Cookie cutters – optional, I had these on hand so my 3 year old could join in.

Lesson plan – Archaeologists for the day

Asalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatu
History is one of those subjects you can really get creative with. So, last night I stayed up and set up a little excavation for us all to dig into the next day. I have to say I was just as excited as the kids.

What you will need:
A pot/container filled with compost
Wooden skewers/toothpicks
Paper-cut into flag shapes

Black marker
Clear ziplock bags

A choice of artefacts -toys/lego/cutlery are all good options
Printable artefact sheets -scroll below to download
